On Thursday, May 16th, 2024, Tekvocation hosted a comprehensive one-day workshop centered on cultivating inclusive communication in the workplace. The event was hosted by Varsha. After several postponements, the long-awaited program on inclusive language and mindfulness commenced with a formal welcome ceremony.
Mindfulness and Mudras
The workshop commenced with an introduction to mindfulness, the art of focusing one's attention on the present moment without judgment. Interactive activities facilitated participant engagement and a deeper understanding of this concept.
Following this, the focus transitioned to the concept of Mudras, hand gestures believed to influence personality development, behavior, and attitude. Mrs. Madhavi K.R., the external trainer having decades of experience in these areas, elaborated on the significance of different Mudras, linking each finger to a specific element (fire, air, space, earth, and water). She then demonstrated and explained the benefits of various Mudras, including Ankush Mudra, Namaskara Mudra, and Dhyana Mudra.
Inclusive Language
The afternoon session shifted to the crucial topic of inclusive language. Mrs. Madhavi K.R. emphasized the importance of using respectful and considerate language in the workplace, providing real-world examples to illustrate its impact. Teams participated in role-playing scenarios, were oriented to a lot of inclusive vocabulary, allowing them to practice and refine their use of inclusive language in the current workplace.
Conclusion
The workshop successfully raised awareness about the power of mindfulness in our daily lives and inclusive language in fostering a positive and respectful work environment. It equipped participants with strategies to manage daily challenges and fostered a deeper understanding of how language shapes professional interactions. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks and the distribution of certificates to all participants.
